aftercare instructions
Your tattoo will look pristine right after your session as it’s still fresh!
We have included our artist’s universal, recommended aftercare steps to keep your tattoo looking fresh for years to come!
Immediately after your tattoo
No baths, swimming or submerging your tatt for the next 2 weeks minimum, or while still visibly healing.
Glad Wrap:
Leave your covering on for 1 hour or, until you get home. After this you may remove the wrap.
With clean hands, lightly wash (don’t scrub) the area with lukewarm water and a small amount of fragrance-free body
wash/ soap etc. Until the area no longer has that “slimy” feeling.
With a clean, dry towel, gently pat dry the area and leave the tattoo to dry out for the night (unless advised otherwise
by your artist – If your tattoo has a lot of colour or black work, keep in mind you may stain your sheets whilst the tattoo is still fresh and weeping – Don’t use your good sheets! 😊
Second skin: Depending on the style of tattoo you have; your artist will provide you with their recommended length of time to keep this on.
To remove this covering, our artists recommend taking it off under running lukewarm water, as the water wears away the adhesive making it easier to remove. Whilst under the water, start by peeling from the bottom and pull down following your hair growth
(like a 3M strip, you pull down from the tab so the adhesive releases without causing damage to the wall)Lightly wash the area with clean hands, lukewarm water and a small amount of body wash/ soap etc.
With a clean towel, gently pat dry the area and leave the tattoo to dry out for the night.
The next few days
It’s completely normal for your skin around the tattoo to be red, swollen and possibly some light bleeding, excretion of plasma, lymphatic fluid and ink. This should subside after a few days depending on the size of your tattoo, after which you can expect your tattoo to dry out and scabs will start to form. Let these scabs fall off naturally as picking them off may result in ink dropping out as it hasn’t yet fully settled into the skin.
The next 2+ weeks of healing:
2 weeks is generally the minimum healing time for all tattoos, if you have a lot of heavy colour and line work, your tattoo can take up to 6-8 to fully heal. – It may also get itchy but please slap, don’t scratch 😊
Aftercare Cream:
Apply your aftercare cream sparingly twice a day over the next two weeks - a little goes a long way 😊 - from the day after your tattoo appointment. Once in the morning and once after a shower during the evening. Don’t over saturate the tatt!
